Classroom Expectations:
Behavior - We will be piloting a new behavior program in our class this year with the clip chart. The clip chart allows the students to earn positive feedback as well as consequences for inappropriate behavior. Everyone will start their day on green or "Ready to Fly".
The positive incentives include:
Clip to Purple "Soaring" - 1 ticket to put in Blue Ticket bucket
Clip to Black "Sidekick Status" - 3 tickets to put in Blue Ticket bucket
Clip to Pink "Superhero Status" - 6 tickets to put in Blue Ticket bucket and name on weekly chart
The same consequences will apply as with the flip card system:
Clip to Yellow "Danger Zone" - 3 laps at recess
Clip to Orange "Doing Time" - 6 laps at recess and silent lunch
Clip to Red "Make a Phonecall" - 6 laps at recess, silent lunch, and phone call to parent from student
Clip to Blue "Kryptonite" - Automatic referral
Homework - Homework will be assigned nightly unless otherwise notified. The purpose of homework is to review concepts we have been working on in class and will not introduce new concepts we have not discussed. Homework will not be assigned on the weekends unless we are working on a major project within several weeks' time period. Homework is expected to be completed by the student and will be checked the following day. Failure to complete the homework will result in walking laps at recess. In the case of repeatedly forgotten homework, the parents and student will be asked to conference with Miss Horvath to discuss any issues the student is having in completing homework. If your child is struggling to complete homework within an hour to hour and a half, please contact Miss Horvath.
*I understand that sometimes "life gets in the way" and certain things come up that make it difficult to complete homework assignments (family emergencies, illness, etc.). Please communicate with me via note or email if such an instance occurs so that we are all on the same page. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Absences - If your child is absent, missed work will be expected within 5 school days. It is the student’s responsibility to get the work from the teacher. They have five school days to turn the work back in to the teacher. Points will be taken off for being late if they turn it in after five days.
From the Office:
Parent Notes
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Most of our learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends everyday, except in cases of illness or an emergency. Please try to schedule medical appointments after school hours or on student holidays.
Changes in Transportation
If you wish for your child’s transportation to change for a particular day, please send in a written note. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
Early Dismissals
Please send a note in the morning if you plan to pick your child up early. Check in at the office to sign your child out and the office staff will call for your child to meet you there. There will be no early dismissals after 2 p.m.
Lunch
Lunch money is collected in the cafeteria. It can be paid daily or weekly. Money may be deposited into your child’s account. Please read the menu for daily lunch selections and price information. Menus are subject to change. No “fast food" is allowed in the lunch room for students, teachers, staff, parents, or guests.
Birthdays
You may have lunch with your child on his/her birthday and read a story to the class. Please do not send in treats. We will be celebrating Buena Vista students' birthdays once a month as a big celebration for all kids with birthdays during their specific month. The dates of the celebrations will be posted on my list of important dates on the home page of our site. Birthday party invitations may only be given out as long as each child in the class is invited.
